Biography:

Philip W. T. Pong received a B.Eng. from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2002 with 1st class honours. Then he obtained a PhD in engineering at the University of Cambridge in 2005. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Magnetic Materials Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for three years. Currently he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). His research interest focuses on the fault detection, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection of power grid. He is the Founding Director of the Green Technology Research and Training Laboratory, leading the research and education activities of offshore wind energy at NJIT. Prof. Stephany Griffith-Jones is an economist researching and providing policy advice on capital flows; macro-economic management of capital flows in developing and transition countries and reform of international financial architecture from a development perspective. She has led several major international research projects on international financial and macro-economic issues with networks of senior academics, policy-makers and bankers from developed and developing countries. Published widely, having written or edited eighteen books and numerous journal and other articles. Vasudevanpillai Biju is a Professor and the Director of the Promotion Office of International Alliance at the Research Institute for Electronic Science and Graduate School of Environmental Science at Hokkaido University. He assumed this position after a research career as a scientist and a senior scientist at AIST, Japan (2004-2015), a PRESTO researcher at Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST, 2010-2014), a visiting Scientist at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2007), a postdoctoral fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA (2003-2004), a JSPS postdoctoral fellow at AIST, Japan (2002-2003), and a research scientist at Angstrom Technology Partnership, Japan (2000-2002). Lingai LUO is Research Director of French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) at the laboratory of thermo-kinetics, Nantes (LTN), France.

Dr. Luo’s research covers a wide range of topics in thermal, process and energy engineering: combustion and fluidized bed; energy balance analysis; solar refrigeration machines; separation processes; energy for buildings, etc. More recently, her research activities focus on a fundamental strategy based on thermodynamic analysis and centered on the transfer intensification and energy systems optimization. Dr. Luo is mainly engaged in the intensification of heat and mass transfer and shape optimization in different energy components, systems and processes. She proposed a multi-scale approach for process intensification. To improve the global performance (productivity) of a process, intensification should necessarily be implemented at three scales: local scale, component scale and system scale.

Dr. Han is an NSF CAREER award recipient of 2010. Dr. Han has several IEEE conference best paper awards, and winner of 2011 IEEE Fred W. Ellersick Prize, 2015 EURASIP Best Paper Award for the Journal on Advances in Signal Processing and 2016 IEEE Leonard G. Abraham Prize in the field of Communication Systems (Best Paper Award for IEEE Journal on Selected Areas on Communications). Dr. Han is the winner 2021 IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award. Professor Soteris Kalogirou is at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Sciences and Engineering of the Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus. Dr. Chirico is the Vice President of Sustainability at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In this role, she oversees the integration of climate and sustainability initiatives for the Institute. Previously, she was one of Hawai’i’s foremost experts on clean energy and won multiple awards as the best sustainability consultant in Hawaii. She worked with some of the largest companies in the world, government agencies, and universities, leading clean energy initiatives, and served as the Executive Director of the first sustainability institute at the University of Hawaii, directing the first clean energy and water programs in the state. Dr. Chirico holds a PhD in Environmental Policy, a Master's in Public Health (MPH), and a Bachelor's of Science (BS). Professor Michael Kelly is the Prince Philip Professor of Technology in the University of Cambridge since 2002, and a Professorial Fellow at Trinity Hall.  Since 2006 he has been a Non-executive Director of the Laird plc.

He studied Mathematics and Physics to MSc (1971) level at Victoria University of Wellington, and completed a PhD (1974) in solid state physics at the University of Cambridge where he continued post-doctoral work until 1981 when he joined the GEC Hirst Research Centre.  While there he and his team developed, from concept to product, two new generation families of microwave devices that went, and one is still, in production with E2V Technologies in Lincoln.  From 1992-2002 he was Professor of Physics and Electronics at the University of Surrey, including a term as Head of the School of Electronics and Physical Sciences.  His research since 1990 has concentrated on the technology issues germane to the practical large-volume low-cost manufacture of the most advanced electronic devices.  During 2003-5, we was the Executive Director of the Cambridge-MIT Institute, an £80M project which brought together academics from Cambridge and MIT to work on research, education and industrial outreach for the benefit of the UK economy.  He has also served as Chief Scientific Advisor to the Department for Communities and Local Government during 2006-9 where he focused on energy demand reduction in the built environment.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, the Royal Academy of Engineering and Honorary Fellow the Royal Society of New Zealand.  He is also a member of Europaea Academia.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and Senior Member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in the USA.  He has won prizes for his work from GEC, the Institute of Physics, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.  He has an honorary DSc from Victoria University of Wellington.

DI Walter H. Mayer is founder and CEO of PROGIS Software GmbH. From 1994 Mr. Mayer started as one of the very few European GIS (= Geographical Information Systems) supplier the development of PC-based GIS-products (WinGIS…) that are successfully sold world-wide via a distributor network.
